Tango is a dance that has influences from European and African culture. Dances from the candombe ceremonies of former slave peoples helped shape the modern day Tango. The dance originated in lower-class districts of Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
Today tango is recognised around the world for its dance and distinctive musical style. But for those who created it, it was more than that. It was a whole culture, a way for diverse immigrant communities in Buenos Aires to create a new common identity within the emerging city.

Our Special Performance Artist/Dancer:
Laura De Altube is a first-class performer and teacher of Argentinian Tango from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has a general dance teaching degree and over 10 years of experience, in Argentina and internationally,of working in all of the various styles of Tango that exist today. Laura's preferred style is "salón tango with a modern focus". That means her teaching is rooted in the beautiful, pure style that has proved its worth over time on Buenos Aires dancefloors. But her Tango is also strikingly up-to-date in its technique and its looks, incorporating all thecutting-edge developments which continue to make this dance ever morefascinating. Laura is a catalyst for understanding tango as a dialogue between the dancers, for being able to move comfortably and naturally as a dancing couple, for enjoying the rich, expressive music, for crisp and rythmical footwork, and for sleek and sensual movements.
